What to Expect From Spring Sports ~ 2022
April 11, 2022
As spring of 2022 is starting to bloom, so are spring sports. Winthrop High School offers boys and girls tennis, outdoor track, lacrosse, sailing, softball, and baseball during the spring season. These teams have high expectations for the season and are looking forward to possibly holding a winning record.
Track and Field coach Nik Beshere said that, “This season in Spring track you can expect a lot of fun. This season we are looking to change up the dynamic of what you’re normally used to. In past seasons the boys and girls teams would typically do everything separately, but this season we’re looking to join together to make the experience more enjoyable for the student athletes. The coaches feel that if we all work together the students will get more out of it. As well as getting a different perspective on how to train. You can also expect days not always being on the track, some days we will be doing a hill workout and some days we will be in the weight room. All in all, you can expect fun and a fresh new look on track and field.”
In addition, softball coach David Guffey said, “Lady Viking softball has been the most competitive program over the last 20 years. We as coaches are committed to help every player reach their full potential. We practice 5 days a week after school just a short walk from the school door. It is a wonderful way to enjoy the spring weather by improving your softball skills and meeting new friends.”
