Renowned Red Bull Racing designer Adrian Newey has confirmed that he will join Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team in 2025 as of Tuesday, September 10th. He will be taking over as Managing Technical Partner, a new role on the team, on March 1, 2025. His contract extends five years, which is reportedly worth $39.2 million per year according to ESPN.
Red Bull announced his departure from the team in May, which commenced a widespread panic over who would get him first. With 12 Driver’s Championships and 13 Constructors Championships, he is a hot commodity. Newey had a long-running career, starting with Williams, McLaren, and finally to Red Bull. He’s credited with Red Bull’s success over the years, who’ve had three Driver’s Championships in a row with driver Max Verstappen. Rumors spread immediately that he would join Aston Martin, Ferrari, or Williams once again, but Aston Martin came out on top.
It’s easy to assume that there will be minimal work done on the 2025 car, with full focus put on 2026. Newey is joining just in time for the 2026 regulation changes, where Aston Martin is hoping to come in full swing.
Lawrence Stroll, Executive Chairman of Aston Martin, has high expectations to become one of the leading contenders in the 2026 season. Across from the Silverstone track, a new headquarters was built, which Newey toured and is reportedly one of the reasons he finalized his decision. Along with a new wind tunnel, Stroll signed a contract with Honda for a new power unit, and Aramco will start supplying them with advanced fuels.
A third World Championship could be in the sights of 43-year-old Aston Martin driver, Fernando Alonso, who also just extended his contract with the team another two seasons. This will no doubt help Lawrence Stroll’s son, Lance, in becoming a more competitive driver on the grid aside his Alonso.
Aston Martin’s looking very promising for the upcoming seasons and seems to be investing lots of time and money in it. Only time will tell who will be the best in this sport.
