Last Wednesday Winthrop High School’s new book club held its first meeting. It was short, around 30 minutes or so, and the club has yet to begin reading a book. So far, the plan is to just discuss books we will read over the year and other things we will do. If you are a reader looking to find a community and expand the genres and types of books you read, I recommend you join the club. Meetings are every Wednesday from 2:05 to 2:45, but once we begin reading next month, meetings will be bi-weekly every Wednesday so people have more time to read before we discuss. We will be reading one book a month, chosen randomly from the club members’ own recommendations.
Until November 1st, we will be doing simple fun stuff, so if you are interested I recommend coming in sometime before then so you start the book we choose at the same time as everyone else. We will be doing other things as well, not just reading! We plan to discuss books, the main themes of those books, and what we like and don’t like about a book, as well as doing small crafts related to the book or to reading in general (ie. making bookmarks or book nooks!). We are all excited to broaden the genres we read, as we are all interested in reading more poetry and classics. If any of the above interests you, stop by room 205 on the Wednesday after next and join the Google Classroom (l3tuzqk)!
