If you haven’t tried these baked goods…what are you waiting for? Zaineb Fawzi, a student at Winthrop High School and fellow writer for the Viking Times, has started a business. It is her home-based dessert shop called Baked by Zaineb. She sells delicious treats to anyone who reaches out, so don’t be shy. If you are interested in trying these treats, make sure to message Zaineb, and she will get right back to you! She has a beautiful dessert menu displayed on her Instagram page to show her customers what they can get for the week. You’d better get one before they sell out each day, considering that they are wildly popular amongst students and very tasty.
I would recommend getting a dessert from Zaineb because each dessert I’ve tried has been mouthwatering. I tried the S’mores cookie and Chocolate Rice Krispies treats, and they did not disappoint. I can’t wait to try more desserts since they are amazing. To learn more about her business, I interviewed Zaineb and asked her a few questions…
What inspired you to start this baking business?
- I’ve honestly always loved baking, ever since I was very young. I started baking when I was 7 years old, and it’s always been a passion of mine. I decided to start my business because I wanted a way to bake and have it be enjoyed by a lot of people. My family likes to eat what I bake, but after a certain point, it just becomes too much, and I have to take a break. The business allows me to bake for a lot of people, and not have to take a break!! It’s also a great way to make a little extra cash!
What is your favorite dessert you’ve made so far?
- My favorite dessert I’ve made since I started the business was actually the red velvet cakes I made for today! I enjoyed the process of making and frosting them, and though they weren’t as popular as other things I’ve made, I still thought they came out well and thought they were so cute!! My favorite dessert I’ve made in general was this Swiss roll cake I made in December for my family! It was a tougher bake, but it came out so cute, and I loved the process of baking it!
How long does it usually take to prepare and bake these delicious goods?
- It’s surprisingly incredibly time-consuming. On average, I spend about 3 hours baking. Since I make everything from scratch, it makes sense why it would take so long. Because I am also making food for other people, I also have to make sure I’m being extra clean and sterile, which adds on time considering glove changes, thoroughly cleaning all materials and keeping a clean space, and just making sure everything is kept sterile. On top of school and other extracurriculars, I’ve had some pretty late nights!!
How do you plan your weekly menus?
- For my weekly menus, I usually make whatever I think looks interesting or fun to bake. When I’m down to a few options, I’ll typically post a poll on my story for people to vote and choose what they would like best!! I also try to keep it fun and make a lot of different bakes, so there can be variety in what I make. It’s honestly all about what I think looks fun!
