The Female Artist Who Fled The French Revolution

Elisabeth Louise Vigee Le Brun joined the Paris Academy of Saint Luke at the age of 19. Her amazing talent helped her make a name for herslef in the noble world and she caught Queen Marie Antionattes attention. And in 1783 Marie Antionatte appointed her as a member of Paris’s powerful Royal Academy to whom she painted a sum of 30 paintings for her.

Elisabeth was one of the only four female academians, she enjoyed the artistic, social and political profile she had. But unfortinatly, when the French Revolution started, her social profile grew too much and she was forced to flee France. In the next 12 years Elizabeth was comissned by many famous people to paint portaits of Berlin, Vienna, Rome, St.Petersburg and Moscow. And in the early 18oo’s, Elizabeth returned to her home in France after her tase of fame in Europe.
