14-year-old shot at Burlington Store

Valentina Orellana Peralta was in a changing room with her mother, trying on dresses, when she was hit by a deadly bullet that passed through the second floor of the Burlington store on Victory Boulevard in Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles Police Department released body-cam footage of the shooting, which occurred after officers responded to reports of an assault by a man inside the Burlington store. Body camera footage shows the sound of police gunfire as officers spotted the suspect. The suspect was identified as 24-year-old Daniel Elena Lopez attacking a woman on the second floor of the Burlington store repeatedly hitting her with a metal cable bike lock.

Many officers arrived at the scene and caught the attacker after shots were heard and the injured suspect who died at the scene. 

Valentinas parents held a news confernce demanding transparency from the LAPD, her gandmother Veronice Larens, told Chilevision that Valentina was doing well in the United States.

“She was learning English. She was happy. They loved her at school,” Said Veronica Larens.

The officer who fired the shot is on “paid administrative leave.”
