Meet The New Mathematics Teachers Of WHS

Ava Abbott, Author

Another school year means another round of new teachers to add to our WHS family! I had the absolute pleasure to catch up with two of these new teachers and to learn more about them.

Ms. Paolini

Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself!

P: ¨I grew up about 30 minutes outside Boston and now I live in Boston! I taught last year at Fenway High School and I am excited for my first year here at Winthrop!¨

Q: Where did you go to school and what was your field of study?

P: ¨I went to undergrad at UMass Amherst and studied math, then I got my masters in Math Education from Boston University.¨

Q: What are you teaching at WHS this year?

P: ¨I am teaching Algebra 2 and Geometry this year!¨

Mr. Austin

Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself!

A: ¨Sure. I’m from Pittsfield which is in the western part of the state, and I’ve been in the Boston area for the last 8 years or so. I love to play music, I play bass in a band. I love to cook, do crossword puzzles, I have an 11-month old son and I like to hike outside.¨

Q: Where did you go to school and what did you study?

A: ¨So I went to college at Boston College and I studied Mathematics and Applied Psychology and Human Developments.¨

Q: What are you most excited about having your first year of teaching at WHS?

A: ¨The thing I’m most excited about is that I live here in Winthrop. So being able to get to know these faces that I see out and about in the world and hopefully getting to make some relationships with people in my community.¨

Q: What are you teaching at WHS this year?

A: ¨So I’m teaching three periods of Algebra I and two periods of Geometry!¨

Thank you Ms. Paolini and Mr Austin! The students and staff here at WHS are so excited to have you two this year, and hopefully many to come!

Next week, I will be catching up with more new teachers and learn more about them. Stay tuned!
