Most people know Coldplay as “The band who wrote that one song Yellow” or “The band with the once-in-a-lifetime concerts” but beneath the surface, Coldplay writes beautiful music that everyone deserves to listen to at least once in their life. Coldplay recently released their album MOON MUSiC on October 4th. This album is one of their best and throughout this article, I will focus on each song, describing its beauty and giving it a rating.
MOON MUSiC – 10/10 Viking Heads*
“MOON MUSiC” is the album’s opening track. Its ethereal instrumentals are gorgeous. The song is about 80% instrumental, and although songs written like this tend to be boring, the emotion within the instrumentals completely makes up for it. When the lyrics start, they are gentle and meaningful. They convey perfectly what the instrumental was trying to say through its sounds. Once the lyrics start to slow down, there is a beautiful transition to their next song, feelslikeimfallinginlove.
feelslikeimfallinginlove – 9/10 Viking Heads
“feelslikeimfallinginlove” is a classic Coldplay song. It starts with a wonderful transition from “MOON MUSiC” and continues with touching lyrics. This song is perfectly described by its title, it is the kind of song someone would listen to when they have found their forever person. The song also has Coldplays iconic “La la la” scattered throughout the song. Overall, this song is great and I have a feeling it will become a hit.
WE PRAY – 8/10 Viking Heads
“WE PRAY” is a very upbeat and catchy song. This song is definitely the song of the album. It features multiple artists, with multiple versions. This song is the kind of song that connects many countries with a common idea. Throughout this song, the idea is that everyone prays, whether it’s for religious reasons or other personal reasons. I found this song to be very exciting, and it’s a lot of fun.
JUPiTER – 9/10 Viking Heads
“JUPiTER” is a very sweet and touching song. It describes the journey of a girl who is struggling with labels being put on her and eventually comes to the conclusion that you should always be yourself. Coldplay is very good at telling stories throughout their songs, and in “JUPiTER” they show this. “JUPiTER”‘s lyrics are meant to be heard. This song is wonderful.
GOOD FEELiNGS – 7/10 Viking Heads
“GOOD FEELiNGS” is the kind of song you would hear at a party. The song has great vibes, and I really enjoyed it. This song isn’t the kind of song that would leave an impact on you, but it’s a lot of fun. Every album needs a fun song with good vibes, and this song provides that.
ALiEN HiTS/ALiEN RADiO – 10/10 Viking Heads
“ALiEN HiTs/ALiEN RADiO” is a very unique song. Similar to the opening song, “ALiEN HiTs/ALiEN RADiO” is mostly instrumentals. This song is supposed to seem very otherworldly. It makes you picture communication between aliens and humans. For a song that is supposedly “alien,” it feels extremely human. It shines a positive light on Earth and everyone who lives here. It reminds you how beautiful life is.
iAAM 6/10 – Viking Heads
“iAAM” is inspirational. It describes a journey of overcoming every issue life throws at you. The overall vibe of the song is very positive and shows that anyone can do anything they want no matter what. This song is pretty good, I definitely enjoyed listening to it, but it’s not my favorite on the album
AETERNA – 8/10 Viking Heads
“AETERNA” describes bliss. In Latin aeterna means eternal or longlasting. This song conveys the feeling of how eternal bliss would feel. It creates a feeling that everyone strives to have in their life. One thing I found interesting in this song is that towards the end, the lyrics “wena ngiyakuthanda we” are on repeat. I translated the lyrics from Zulu to English and it means “I love you”. I think that the choice to end the song this way was absolutely beautiful, showing that any form of love is a way to find eternal bliss.
ALL MY LOVE – 8/10 Viking Heads
“ALL MY LOVE” is a very sweet love song. This is the kind of song that would be perfect to walk down the aisle to. This song describes exactly what the title says; love will always be there no matter the circumstance. I don’t have much to say about this song other than the fact that it is extremely touching.
ONE WORLD – 10/10 Viking Heads
“ONE WORLD” is the perfect way to end the album. After the album takes you on a journey, showcasing the highs and lows of life, this song brings you back to reality. It is another song with impactful instrumentals, reminding you that you only have one life and you have to feel love, bliss, and everything human.
I thought the album was amazing, but music is personal so take a listen to the album and see what you think.
