Chappel Roan has been all that anyone has been able to talk about for the last couple of months. Whether it’s discussing your favorite one of her songs or her newest look. Chappel Roan has been the hot topic since she opened for Olivia Rodrigo on the Guts Tour. But recently, Chappel Roan has been getting talked about for the wrong reasons. Â
Kayleigh Rose Amstutz or better known as Chappel Roan seems to be the center of all the latest controversies. Back in September, Chappel Roan came out on her TikTok stating that she was not going to endorse either candidate in the upcoming election. She mentioned in her video that “both sides have issues” and that she will not put her name and her brand behind either one of them. After posting this, she received backlash from fans asking her to pick a candidate or asking her why she wasn’t endorsing Kamala Harris.Â
After receiving this backlash she posted another TikTok explaining the situation further. She talks about how she can’t support either side because of some of their ideas and beliefs, claiming she agrees and disagrees with points on both sides. She goes on to discuss issues that have been caused by both parties and says, “I’m not going to settle for what the options are in front of me and you’re not going to make me feel bad for that.” She then tells fans how she will be voting for Kamala in the election even though she is still questioning both sides. Â
Along with her political views, Chappel Roan has also been receiving backlash for her recent behavior on red carpets. On September 11th at the MTV Video Music Awards Chappel Roan was seen yelling at a photographer “You shut the f**k up” after getting told by a photographer to do the same then she points at the photographer that yelled at her and said “No not me b***h” as she traveled down the rest of the carpet, where there were no further incidents. Along with the VMAS red carpet incident, Chappel Roan also had another moment on the purple carpet of Olivia Rodrigo’s Guts Tour movie premiere. As she posed on the carpet Chappel ruptly paused pointing at a photographer “You” she said to them as she walked over “ You were so disrespectful to me at the Grammys.” She continued to stand in front of the photographer as she demanded an apology from him. Chappel Roan is not a stranger when it comes to calling out photographers for rude behavior. But after these interactions, she has been receiving backlash for “causing a scene” and “making herself the center of attention”Â
Chappel Roan has also been receiving hate from fans for canceling 2 festival appearances at the All Things Go music festival in New York City and Maryland on September 28th and 29th. Chappel Roan posted to fans on social media saying, “I apologize to people who have been waiting to see me in NYC & DC this weekend at All Things Go, but I am unable to perform. Things have gotten overwhelming over the past few weeks and I am really feeling it,” Chappel explained on her Instagram Story. “I feel pressure to prioritize a lot of things right now and I need a few days to prioritize my health. I want to be present when I perform and give the best shows possible. Thank you for understanding. Be back soon xox.”
Despite her message and her reasoning fans were outraged about her cancellation. Stating that she should’ve gone on anyway or dropped out sooner since people were traveling and spending lots of money just to see her headline the festivals. The festival ended up getting the three-person indie band MUNA to replace Chappel in her slot at the festival. However, this is not the first time that Chappel Roan has mentioned the overwhelming pressure of fame. In late August she came onto social media to say that she was disgusted with the normalization of the creepy and invasive behavior of fans and paparazzi. She said “I don’t care that it’s normal. I don’t care that this crazy type of behavior comes along with the career that I’ve chosen,” she explained her feelings in two TikTok videos “That doesn’t make it okay. That doesn’t make it normal. That doesn’t mean that I want it. It doesn’t mean that I like it.” Chappel has made it clear to fans what her opinions about fame are, and she had to take moments to take care of herself. But fans were still upset, claiming that she signed up to be famous and that she had to tough it out. But the response she got from fans is exactly what Chappel was talking about with unrealistic expectations and demands for celebrities.Â
Over the past few months, Chappel Roan seems to be the subject of all the latest controversies. But does she deserve all the backlash she is getting? Some fans are outraged over her actions while others are supporting her and saying that her actions and responses are valid and should be normalized in the industry. Other music artists like Noah Kahan have even spoken up on X (formerly Twitter) to address the situation, Kahan wrote, “Love this @ChappellRoan way to stand up for yourself.” after all the recent incidents. But what do you think? Does Chappel Roan deserve all the hate she’s been getting? Or are her views regarding, fame, paparazzi, and politics understandable?

i think it’s kinda dumb that people backlash someone just for whom someone is voting for. at the same I feel like chapel should have just kept her vote private, epically if she was quite unsure of both sides. I only think this since people always have different ideas, and backlash anyone for anything. (why am I such a yapper lol)

I totally agree! I think the only reason she shared who she was voting for was because she felt pressure from the public to endorse one of the candidates. Thank you for reading!
