There are many words you could use to describe the 2025 edition of the Viking Football team. None quite capture the essence of their season, other than resilience.

The first game of the season was a matchup VS. Tewksbury. They’ve been slowly, but surely becoming a powerhouse in Massachusetts, and the Vikings were faced with a great challenge right out of the gate. Winthrop had new looks all around, after the graduation of many cornerstone seniors, younger players needed to step up. Most notably, Charlie Ferrara stepping in at QB, now being tasked with leading their offense vs some of the toughest defenses in the state.
The next few weeks would go on to be some of the roughest games of the season, with hard fought battles falling just short against teams like Shawsheen Tech, a team who went on to win the D5 State Championship.

After a tough 0-4 start, the Vikings took a trip up to Saugus, looking to finally snap their losing streak to begin the season. It was safe to say, they did not disappoint, and took home a 40-6 win, capped off by a Nick Romano pick-6 that went all the way down the field. The next game after this, finally wrapped up their 5-game long road trip. While it was a loss to Swampscott, the game went down to the wire, and the Vikings showed fight the entire time.
They returned home, needing to win out in order to make playoffs, and they did just that. They put the Witches back on trial, beating Salem 23-12 on Senior Night, and then squished the fish, beating Gloucester 7-6. Their trip to the playoffs was booked when they stopped Gloucester on a hail mary attempt at their own 2 yard line, sealing the win.

They matched up against the Stoneham Spartans, and even after multiple huge touchdown runs from their star runningback, Seth Sacco, and multiple great defensive plays and stops, they fell just short, 30-20.
For many teams, that would’ve been the total momentum killer, the end. For Winthrop, it was fuel for what mattered most.
The next week, they had their final home game of the season vs. Wilmington. They did not disappoint in the slightest, and took home the win 34-14 against a very strong Wilmington team. This led into what all consider to be the most important 2 weeks of the year, preparation for The Team Up North.

The Vikings traveled north, and faced off against the Patriots. The winter wind blowing fiercely into the bright November sky sent chills all around. For both teams, this game just means more, it means everything. It means glory, it means celebration, it means stapling your name into history as a hometown hero in Winthrop. The Vikings came through, after a masterclass performance from their star runningback and linebacker Seth Sacco (3 Rushing TDs, 2 Interceptions) and were able to pull out their 4th win for the Beachcomber Trophy in a row. In a year that looked bleak, and over from the start, the abundance of resilience led them to a numerous amount of accomplishments. Whether that be their late playoff push turned successful, multiple wins against conference opponents, or a morale-destroying 4th win in a row vs. their rival, this season had it all.
